More than Happy Meal

Let’s face it – the McDonald’s name has acquired a different connotation over the years.

McDonald's new happy meal boxes

While the company continues to rank as the highest grossing fast food chain, the Golden Arches have come under fire for their use of preservatives and questionable food products, especially with documentaries such as Super Size Me and frequently shared images of “pink slime” that users claim to be a McNugget in the making.

With campaigns such as McPick 2 for $5 and the addition of healthier options to the menu, it seems that the brand is undergoing a renaissance of sorts to regain their top spot in the hearts (and stomachs) of everyone. Sometimes, that means thinking outside of the box. Or in this case, thinking of the box.

It was announced early on March 1 that McDonald’s would release a new design of Happy Meal boxes in their Swedish market throughout the month. The cardboard carrier doesn’t contain a new game or character on the sides, rather, a pop out edition of Google’s VR goggles.

What do you think of this new release? Will it hit the U.S. market? Will this make consumers dine at Mickey D’s? Will it smell like French fries? Let us know your stance in the comments.
